Aughavannagh Cottage is a beautifully restored holiday cottage in the scenic Wicklow Mountains an hour south of Dublin. Located near the Wicklow Way hiking trail at the foot of Lugnaquilla - Wicklow's highest mountain, this lovely house is the perfect location for a Wicklow self catering holiday.

Outdoor Activities in Wicklow

Our Wicklow holiday cottage is a perfect base for those who enjoy the outdoor life and Wicklow is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. From hill walking, hiking and mountain climbing, to golf, horse riding and fishing - there really is something for everyone.  Beautiful beaches such as Brittas Bay extend along the coast only half an hour from Aughavannagh Cottage while a short drive provides a choice of fabulous golf courses.

For water sports enthusiasts there’s sailing, windsurfing and kayaking nearby whilst for equestrian lovers a wide range of stables are easily accessible for horse riding and pony trekking.

It’s the Wicklow Mountains that are probably the biggest attraction. For hikers and hill walkers of every ability the possibilities are endless. From a tough, day long ascent to the summit of Lugnaquilla directly from the cottage to a gentler stroll around Glendalough Lake - there’s so much to do. And of course the Wicklow Way walking trail runs not far from the cottage.

Wicklow Visitor Attractions

This self catering Wicklow cottage provides many pretty villages (including 'Ballykissangel' of TV fame) complete with welcoming pubs and restaurants. The beautiful valley of Glendalough is 20 minutes away from our Wicklow holiday home and the lovely blue flag beach at Brittas Bay is half an hour down the valley.

For kids both Clara Lara funpark and Greeenan Farm and Maze are only 20 minutes drive and the National Sea Life Aquatic Centre in Bray is well worth a visit. The historic Avondale and Russborough houses are also easily reached and for garden lovers the beautiful grounds of Mount Usher in Ashford (40 minutes) are really beautiful. As one of Irelands most unspoiled areas, the county has an abundance of wildlife with deer and birds of prey such as the Red Kite regularly spotted by our guests.

Our cottage is situated in a peaceful wooded glen at the foot of Luqnaquilla, Wicklow's highest mountain, which rises to over 3,000 feet. In the local area there is golf, hill walking, mountain climbing, fishing, sailing, blue flag beaches and driving in Wicklow is a pleasure. Avoca (Ballykissangel) and lots of friendly pubs and restaurants are nearby. The cosmopolitan and vibrant city of Dublin is an easy day trip from this Wicklow holiday accommodation for visits to breweries, museums and great shopping.
