Walking the Wicklow Way - Self Catering Accomodation
The Wicklow Way is one of Europe’s most beautiful way marked trails. The Way begins just south of Dublin City and stretches deep into the mountains, meandering for over 100 kilometres through countless spectacular glens and valleys. For Wicklow Way accomodation our self catering Cottage at Aughavannagh is ideally placed on the mid –way point, making it the perfect location for those renting our lovely Irish cottage to explore the Wicklow Way.
For those walking the Wicklow Way south of the cottage, the route traverses old military roads, pilgrim trails and disused mountain routes with fabulous views. The scenery is always breathtaking and there is a real sense of discovering a hidden Ireland of sleepy little villages like Aughrim and Roundwood, ancient monastic settlements such as Glendalough and historic sites associated with Ireland's fascinating past.
For much of the route you can see the distinctive shape of Croghanmoira in the background.
From the Cottage northwards the route crosses mountain valleys and ridges, often with views to Lugnaquilla whilst to the south beyond the mountain ringed Aughavannagh Valley the Wicklow Way slips gently into wooded hill country of small farms and distant views of mountains as far south as Tipperary and Waterford. You may even get to spot the beautiful Red Kite!
The Wicklow Way is well signposted and suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness provided you follow normal codes of hill-walking safety. Depending on your ability and inclination you can aim for long and challenging day long hikes in the mountains or if you prefer, you can aim to stroll for a few miles at a gentler pace, returning each evening to Aughavannagh Cottage to relax and unwind.
