Rathdrum Self Catering Cottage
If you want to rent a pretty Wicklow self catering cottage near Rathdrum, Aughavannagh Cottage is about 25 minutes scenic drive through the Wicklow Mountains to this lovely village. Rathdrum (Irish: Ráth Droma, meaning Ringfort of the Ridge) is situated high on the western side of the beautiful Avonmore Valley and offers the tourist majestic views out over the River Avonmore, which flows through the Vale of Clara. Not far from the beautiful valley of Glenmalure and its great pub – Rathdrum also has a train station for easy access to Dublin city and is also near the maze and farm at Greenan and the fun park at Clara Lara. Rathdrum was also chosen as the location for the filming of Michael Collins -starring Liam Neeson.
Rathdrum was the birthplace of Charles Stewart Parnell, one of the greatest political leaders of modern Irish and Wicklow history. Avondale House is one of the main attractions and is synonymous with the life of Parnell. The house is set amongst the Avondale Forest, which is excellent for both picnics and walking. In the village there are a number of lovely restaurants and pubs, including Bates Restaurant – a firm favourite with visitors to our self catering Wicklow cottage.
